Testimonials
Practicing these tools from Convo with Kids even just for four weeks, I have been able to see a difference in the way I relate to others besides my own daughter, becoming a better listener and I also see how my daughter has opened up a lot more and become more of a conversationalist herself, as I have intentional conversations.
Building my relationship with my daughter takes work and intentionality. She is so precious to me, but if I am not paying attention to her, not curious, not connecting, the days, weeks, months, years can pass by, and before I know it, I'll be sending her off to college. More than that, I may have ways of talking, relating, communicating that could be dampening our relationship and are counterproductive. But now with greater self-awareness, I can use the tools and resources to grow as a listener, a connector, and a safe haven for my daughter.
The top takeaway from Convo with Kids for me was learning how to "praise to raise" my child. I didn't realize how much I didn't recognize what my kids have done—their progress or efforts—but I easily got frustrated with them that led to my kids shutting down and feeling nagged by me. Instead, I have been learning to use “descriptive praise” tool and champion my kids and found my kids more responsive when I do need to correct them, open and engaged in conversations, and even more delightful to me!
